Sanctuary Equines
Meet our Sanctuary Equines, we want to continue providing a safe space/place for these beautiful mistaken horses.
Monti - Mustang
27 years old

Monti's journey began when he was pulled from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at just 1 1/2 years old. Previous attempts at domestication failed, leading him to spend over a decade in pasture solitude. In 2016, we rescued Monti with hopes of providing him a loving home and human companionship.
However, Monti's distrust of humans proved deeply ingrained, requiring nearly four years for him to feel at ease beyond Madison's presence. Despite our best efforts and extensive medical assessments, it became clear that Monti suffers from a muscle disorder hindering proper back muscle development, rendering him unridable.
Moreover, over time Monti has developed blindness, heightening his sensitivity to sound, smell, and sudden movements. Despite these challenges, Monti found solace and companionship in his beautiful Quarter Horse wife, Flicka. Her steadfast presence and gentle guidance have played a crucial role in Monti's journey towards trust and acceptance. Thanks to Flicka's patient companionship, Monti has gradually grown accustomed to new experiences, allowing strangers to approach, smell, and even engage in physical interactions.
Their unique relationship serves as a testament to the transformative power of companionship and the remarkable resilience of the equine spirit.
Flicka - Quarter Horse / Thoroughbred
25+ year Old

Flicka's story is a reminder that not all horses come to our sanctuary as a rescue but as an addition to help the other horses adapt. Once a prized eventing horse, trail companion, and pleasure ride, she epitomized versatility and dedication to her owner's every whim. Flicka's willingness to tackle any challenge knew no bounds; if her owner desired it, Flicka was eager to deliver and exceed expectations.
However, Flicka's life took a dramatic turn during a devastating fire that ravaged our community. Amidst the chaos and loss, her owner faced the difficult decision of retiring Flicka from her Barrel racing & Commercial trail horse days. Rather than parting ways with her beloved companion, they entrusted her to our sanctuary, recognizing the need for a peaceful retirement. Flicka now performs her trail ride duties at a slower speed showing the rescues how its done.
Since joining our sanctuary, Flicka has become a cherished member of our herd, offering solace and companionship to both humans and horses alike. Her gentle presence has provided comfort to those struggling with human interaction, often coaxing even the most resistant horses to open up and trust again.
Flicka's role in our sanctuary is invaluable; she serves as a beacon of tranquility, fostering a sense of peace and harmony among her fellow equine residents. Her unwavering spirit and nurturing nature continue to inspire all who have the privilege of crossing paths with her. In a world often fraught with uncertainty, Flicka stands as a steadfast symbol of resilience, compassion, and enduring love.
Gemma - Quarter horse
25 years old

Gemma's journey is a testament to her indomitable spirit and unwavering resilience. From the depths of Kill Pen number one, she emerged as a fighter, determined to defy the odds stacked against her.
Her first set of owners, facing their own struggles, reluctantly sent Gemma to the kill pens, where she faced unimaginable horrors. Trampled, beaten, and shattered, Gemma's spirit endured, growing stronger with each trial.
Rescued once, then returned, Gemma's second rescuers couldn't bear to subject her to further torment. With a shattered shoulder and a fierce will to survive, Gemma needed a sanctuary where she could heal and thrive.
When Gemma's owners reached out to us, their fear and uncertainty mirrored Gemma's own distress. Her initial reaction to our arrival was one of fear and aggression, but as she realized our intentions, her demeanor softened.
During the six-hour journey home, Gemma found solace in the promise of a new beginning. Upon arrival, she was given time to acclimate and heal, surrounded by love and care.
In the company of fellow rescues, Gemma found a kindred spirit in Jasper, forging a bond that would shape her journey to recovery. Despite her shoulder injury limiting her abilities, Gemma has flourished into an incredible children's horse, embodying resilience, strength, and a capacity for love that knows no bounds.
Today, Gemma stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, a living testament to the transformative power of compassion and perseverance. Her journey serves as a reminder that every horse deserves a chance at a better life, free from fear and suffering. Gemma's story should never be repeated, but her triumph over adversity will forever inspire those fortunate enough to know her.
Jasper - Quarter horse
25 years old

Jasper's journey has been a remarkable odyssey marked by unexpected twists and turns. For over two decades, he remained loyal to the same family, never experiencing companionship beyond the confines of his home. However, when wildfires swept through Oregon, Jasper found himself relocated to a barn unknown to his owners, a turn of fate that would ultimately lead him to us.
Months later, when Jasper's owners reached out to us in search of their beloved horse, we embarked on a quest to locate him among the multitude of relocated animals. Miraculously, we discovered Jasper in the back of a pasture, near a crushed fence line, emaciated, hairless, and terrified. Neglected and mistreated by the barn's owners, Jasper had endured months of abuse and starvation due to their negligence.
Upon gaining permission, we swiftly removed Jasper from the property, providing him solace and sanctuary on our land. Despite being over 70 years old, Jasper's owners made the difficult decision to surrender him to our sanctuary, recognizing his need for care and compassion beyond their means.
Unbeknownst to us, Jasper also suffered from a rare respiratory condition, causing him to struggle with every breath. Through diligent veterinary care and treatment, we were able to alleviate his discomfort, restoring his vitality and zest for life. Jasper forged connections with our other horses, finding solace and companionship within his newfound herd.
After years of solitude, Jasper now thrives as a trusted trail horse, relying on his herd for support and companionship. His journey serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the equine spirit and the transformative power of compassion and care.
